Not making any promises, but I think there's a good chance that it'll be released by the end of this year.

That would be great news: finally a remote that is finegrained so it removes the limitations from the camera's firmware.
If you release it, make sure you also have created a walk-though video, walking the users through the new options available. That would be freaking awesome! :-)
