Unleashed N1 and USB Cable [solved]

We tested as good as we can. But there will always be things we didn't find. If you found things that apparently don't work as they should, you can report them here so we can take care of them as soon as possible.

The cable that came with my N1 does not fit into the USB port on my D500 (Micro USB on the cable, the D500 has a full sized USB3 port). Did I get the wrong cable? If not, how do I connect the cable?

The cable seems to be needed for certain features, like photo review (quote from the "How do I set up Photo Review" tutorial https://www.foolography.com/faqs/how-do ... to-review/ is below] and better GPS functionality.

2. For all Nikon cameras this short and flexible cable with small right-angle plug is necessary for the photo review feature.
Also, when the cable is plugged in to the Unleashed N1, the flash sync port cover must be removed and the port itself is blocked. This, I believe, is the standard configuration for recent Nikons with 10-pin connector, so it isn't unique to the D500.

Perhaps the connector for the USB cable should be on the side of the N1 instead of the top. That way the Flash Sync port is not blocked or exposed to the elements, and the N1 is protected a bit from rain (a rubber cover would also be good, for when the cable is not in use).

I too found it difficult to get it but it really does work on a D500. You don't need the full size on the USB port. You only need to put it where it will fit and part of the USB port on the camera will have nothing. Drove me nuts! It works:)

Thanks! That works. There needs to be better documentation for this device....

Now about the blocking of the flash sync port...

Hi Allanimal
We do have some documentation, even if not yet a manual:
https://www.foolography.com/support/unleashed/

The issue with the Micro-USB cable was so frequently asked, that we decided to make a "how to plug it in" video, to show everyone that it does indeed fit. Micro-USB 3.0 is backward compatible with Micro USB 2.0, - the plug just fits into the one half of the wider socket.

I'm glad you got it to work!
